  1. May God rest her soul in peace, and may He punish those responsible for her assassination

    He will address this no doubt.

    we know that democracy is never bound to work in such regions as Pakistan

    Not if the so-called 'honest' politicians remain in the country. They just rule for power and money.

    Who do you think is responsible for her assassination, and what could be the reasons for that?

    People and the People's party think that Government is involved. Government has changed quite a few statements lately about how she was assasinated. Why kill her? simple because her party was getting stronger and the elections were just a week long, so good excuse to rid of her and get the election postponed.

    What do you think about Pakistan's decision of not making an international tribunal for this assassination

    I think every one ought to keep their internal matters to themselves. AS for why she was killed and the investigation on it, I personally think Government is hiding something.

    How do you see Pakistan after the assassination of former PM Bhutto

    Same as before I think, only just that equillibrium has shifted to Musharraf's side a little bit. To speak the truth, no politician, be it Benaziar, Musharraf or nawaz sharif, none of them are or were truly sincere to the country.

    How do you see the region after her assassination? More unrest?

    The region where I am living and Lahore as well as other major cities except Islamabad have been rather peaceful. No voilence as it is and no damages so far. Only trouble is that the fuel stations are closed which is making life a little difficult. Anyway, more unrest? I don't think so, we already had enough!

  2. If it were reacted with air, i would think it would have been 'burn in air' than 'exposed' in air. Air as we all know is a mixture of gases which contain nitrogen more than oxygen. So there is a possibility that exposed to air doesn't mean oxygen at all, but burn in air is definately to do it addition of o2.

    hope that helps

  3. Well as the temperature increases and looking at the equillibrium that is to say H20 -------> H+ + OH- . The process is endothermic. So according to Le Chateleir's Principal (don't mind the spellings), as we increase the temperature the forward reaction is favoured and so does the production of H+ ions. So ph does drop and the reaction will take place completely and more reactively.

  4. wow thanks, insane_alien, I really appreciate your explaination. I think it was not 2 hard after all. I haven't revised my syllabus for ages and some1 asked this question but I was unable to understand the question?

  5. Yeh it is basically depend upon thermal(heat) expansion. As rightly stated by the previous poster I think you need to have a look at thermal expansion coefficient. That will tell you whether you are going to have similar effect on plastic lid jar as you had with metal lid one from pouring hot water over it.

  6. Thnx, yes i am aware of Markovnikov's rule and I think it suggested that where to place your halogen atom in the carbon chain? How can it possibly explain which product is abundant? By the way my answer was right though!

    Thnx again

  7. well the question was in the reaction between propene and HBr which product will be dominate? ... the the question has not sunk in my head!

    can u help now...!

  8. Hi erevy1,

    Could some1 tell me what does this sentence means:

    "which product dominates"?

    I think it means which product is in excess? what u think?

    Thnx

  9. Hi all,

    I know its not a very difficult thing to answer, however it is difficult for me who to believe. Does Magnesium reacts with cold water. My guess is yes, but in such a way as if it doesn't, very slow. But, some say it doesn't react AT ALL. whats ur take on it! Answer'll be appreciated!

    Happy Eid and Merry Christmas to all!:)

  10. hi valencykt-94, its very good to hear that you would like to take chemistry as your career subject. If you want to discuss anything, take advice on experiments you will find that SFN nourshers(don't mind the spellings) for these sort of things. Just post your query in the appropriate section and people here would be glad to disscuss with you.

  11. Hi all,

    Well a few number of members of SFN have been confused about how to balance the equations. So I have decided to make the matter as simple as I possibly can.

    Consider the below equation:

    CH4 + O2 ---> CO2 + H2O

    Now assume the following:

    C = Yellow egg

    H = White egg

    O = Red egg.

    Also assuming that the reactant part of the equation (on the tail of the arrow) is Basket 1 and the product part of the equation (in direction of the arrow) is Basket 2.

    So the key is to balance the same number of each egg from either side (basket). You are provided with unlimited number of each coloured egg (C, H or O). Looking at the equation and from our assumption we have 1 yellow egg, 4 white eggs and 2 Red eggs in Basket 1. And in Basket 2 we have 1 yellow egg, 2 white eggs and 3 red eggs.

    Now try to work out and balance the number of eggs that should be added to each basket. Remember if we add 1 more red egg in Baskets 1, it would make total of 3 eggs in Baskets 1 and in real equation it would be written as 1.5 O2 because 1.5 x 2 = 3.

    Try to balance yourself and see if your result is

    CH4 + 2O2 -----> CO2 + 2H2O

    I hope this will be helpful for those who find balancing difficult. Please let me know if I have made any mistake, I am open to criticism. Please leave comments!:)

  12. Hi,

    Carbon makes 4 bonds or at least has the ability to do so. The electronic configuration of Carbon is as follows:

    C6 = 1s2 2s2 2p2

    Now in order for carbon to make 4 bonds it needs to have exactly 4 half-filled orbitals ( 1 2s one and 3 2p ones). An electron should be promoted to the last of 2p orbital. Promotion of electron needs energy. I was wondering where the energy came from? Does the 1s orbital make bonds with 2s orbital? because bond making is exothermic and the energy released can be used to promote an electron from 2s to 2p.

    Any help?

  13. it may have been but its quite common now isn't it? People have used it for the same meaning as the "handsome is as handsome does" sentence but 4 differnt situations. Can u explain it though!

  14. Hi,

    I have read this idom and surprisingly no one has managed to give one precise answer when asked what it meant . Why not you try and explain it:

    "Stupid is as stupid does" taken from Oliver Goldsmith quotes which actually was "Handsome is as handsome does".
