  1. Ooooh, meeting. :> Someone should probably dig this thread up in late 2006 so that people could make some arrangements. :)

    2005 OK?

Well its still 2 years. But the UK half will be in Birmingham near Yt, and u yanks can organise one in the US. A live satalite link up between the two.

  2. It was discovered at lovell, yes you know the one near ME?!

    Anyway, heres a story quoting how it was named;

Something deep-seated in human nature calls on us to name things. It’s almost as if a thing isn’t real' date=' or whole, until we name it — and so, X had to have a name.

Suggestions flooded in: “Zeus,” “Cronos,” “Lowell,” “Minerva.” Widow Lowell first liked “Zeus,” but later suggested “Percival,” then “Lowell,” and then, finally, “Constance,” her own name.

Dozens of other well-meaning suggestions came pouring in as well. Then there were hundreds, then thousands. But when all was said and done, the moniker for the newly discovered X that the Lowell staff preferred was the one suggested* by 11-year-old Venetia Burney of Oxford, England: Pluto — Pluto, the Greek god of the Underworld; the brother of Jupiter, Neptune, and Juno; and third son of Saturn, who was able, when he wished, to render himself invisible.

Both the American Astronomical Society and the UK’s Royal Astronomical Society adopted Pluto as the official name and as the official symbol for the new world. was Percival Lowell’s monogram. [/quote']

  3. The titanic sunk because there was a large gash which whent through 4 bulkeheads, and 3 was the max to stop the ship sinking.

In hindsight, would it have been a better idea to not try and avoid the iceberg, and hit it head on so that only 1 bulkhead (the front) would have burst?

  4. Ed' date=' did you actually score +7.8 on the authoritarian axis? Ala Adolf Hitler? Or did you just forget to include the minus sign?

Some of the questions on this thing are pretty lame and difficult to assess. For example, "A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system." Do they mean "do you feel that a one-party state is a good thing or a bad thing"? Because surely that question, on an entirely factual basis, could only be answered "yes". How could it be answered "no"?

There were a lot of dubious questions like that, so I feel my score is not accurate. I think I lean farther towards the libertarian side on that Y axis, and closer to the center on the X axis.

But hey, to each his own, I guess. It's not like this test is objective.[/quote']

yes the test did reveal my fascist leanings :D

I certainly did NOT leave of any minust signs.

  5. because the voltage reverse anyway.

A commutater is there because after turning through 180 degrees the motor shaft will be reversed i.e. + will be at - and - at +, meaning it will go back in the opoisite direction.

  6. because rather than trying to find a link between QED and GR they start inventing strings and mulitverses which are neither.

The whole idea sounds riduculus to me. I suspect the link is much more conceptual, like other theories, this is like a childs imganination.
