1. ## Finding the Area Under a Circle Using Integrals?

You are generous with upvotes, Sir.
2. ## Use the lens formula to show that Use the lens formula to show that f^2 = ab.

Hint: a and b are distances measured from focus in formula 1 and from optical centre in the other.
3. ## Finding the Area Under a Circle Using Integrals?

In studiot's solution; The required area is area of ∆ABC - area BDCB.
4. ## If pi ratio " was" squared and = 9.8 m/s/s how would this change the whole of science?

I have four chickens and when four is squared I get the no. of pair of socks I have. There must be a link between socks and chickens? Pie squared is not exactly equal to 9.8 m/s/s It is just an approximation which sometimes help you in problems where g/pie becomes 1!
5. ## Hair gel stuck in my head

Are you sure that unwashed gel got into your scalp and is causing baldness. Better consult a doctor.
6. ## Not all Pages of Thread Appear.

In the mobile version of our forum; if you select a thread from new content, in which you have never posted, will always begin with page one. Anyone else noticed?
7. ## Need help for homework boyle's law, charles' law and gay-lussac's law.

Telling answers is against rules here. You don't seem to know what Boyle's or Charle's law mean. How about finding out them first. You will find the questions to be ridiculous once you understand the law . These are 'plug and chug' type.
8. ## cathode ray experiment

Have you done the experiment or read somewhere that the tube glows? You can get direct answer with a little google search, though. You should always try that first. You can also look into your book and investigate.
9. ## Could cations and nonpolar substances react?

I think a cation can react with non polar species as in coordination compounds. For example, oxo-ligand compounds where oxygen act as a ligand.
10. ## atom structure

Do you deliberately mean 'protons' rather proton. I don't think literature ever mentions charge by mass ratio of system of particles. Even then:No e\m doesn't change. It is constant.
11. ## Are PhD Engineers Scientists or Engineers?

Engineers experiment to make things while scientists make things to experiment.
12. ## Roget's Spiral

When the circuit breaks and the coil tries to come down, copper would provide an upward force so that it can resist increase in flux. Since copper is better conductor, the effect might be more. I suspect that's why mercury is quoted in books. Am I understanding you correctly?
13. ## Roget's Spiral

In that case, metal would support contraction. As you raise metal, flux through it increases and it tends to oppose the factor increasing the flux. This case is different from what is intended to be shown in Roget's spiral.
14. ## Kant and his philosophy of mathematics and corporeal nature

I feel source of knowledge is- Through someone else's words Through literature Through experience Through assumption (as when I see smoke from a forest, I assume fire and act accordingly) I think my list is exhaustive.
15. ## A Big Thank You

He or anyone else posting the above already know what view more than half of the people have.
16. ## need physics home work help-capacitor charging

How do you approach?

18. ## Attraction

I say it because I know about potential energy of a system, electrostatic potential in this case due to proton-electron pair and kinetic energy of a revolving electron. And I know that total energy is sum of kinetic and potential energy. Here, http://dev.physicslab.org/Document.aspx?doctype=3&filename=AtomicNuclear_BohrModelDerivation.xml
19. ## Attraction

Attraction results in loss of energy when the attraction causes motion in a conservative field. When you hold two charges, there is attraction between them but you bind them from motion and reaching a state of less potential energy. 2s electron has less energy and hence more energy is needed to be supplied to it to ionize it then 3p. Bohr's model provides a good analysis of one electron atom energy levels. You can check that energy of a bound system(total) happens to be negative.
20. ## Do you fear death?

No I don't, as far as it is not my or beloved one's death.
21. ## Conservation of energy

Wheels would eventually stop at some equilibrium of forces.
22. ## Roget's Spiral

John, when the spring would contract, metal base would prevent it from doing so as per Lenz's law. So the periodic motion of spring might not be clearly visible? Hg is also a metal though.

Deepak mentions of supreme bliss. As a side note I would like to tell him what the Vedic Philosophy says: god is supreme bliss. It is not that happiness is in him, but he himself is bliss. As for accepting that there is a state of supreme bliss is just a matter of faith. Like we don't question why an A is written as such, or spelled as such. I confess that I am not content. I seek happiness, momentarily I get it, and then it's gone. I would like to experience supreme bliss. Deepak mentions of supreme bliss. 24. ## Roget's Spiral

Two years back, I did it and now I know I did it wrong. Salt water, using AC source both were wrong choices that wouldn't allow you to observe the spring motion. The good way is to use merury, decent DC batteries. I think you know the idea how the spiral works?
25. ## Dissolution of calcium carbonate in nitric acid, then combustion

If you want calcium then use something that can reduce it like Lithium, Potassium, Barium etc, like they do in silver extraction from cynide complex. Although, side reactions would be there.
