I know that sailors used to use compasses to navigate but does anyone know who actually identified the field surrounding Earth? The person who found out what caused the compasses to actually work in the way they do?

Yes, that is a very good simulation. I quite enjoyed it.

I suppose one nit-pick is that in the simulation where it shows the death of a star (size of your choice), for the larger ones, it still says "Red Giant". Shouldn't it say "Red Supergiant"? Thats the best i could find

Would it be at all possible to create some sort of hole in the magnetic field around the planet?

Maybe using a highly magnetic mesh at some distance, opposite to that at which the field is flowing? Could you create some sort of pocket where UV could get in?

By the way, after many years of PC experience in my case, when i recently bought my mac mini, it blew my mind away. It truly is a 'beautiful' machine and handles very well. I don't even worry at all about malware or viruses anymore; i was paranoid about them on my PC - just shows how much confidence I have in it.

The applications built in are amazing for working use. To be honest, I favour the macbook.

I personally always use 1. Ever since I started typing, which is many years ago, I have always used 1. Only recently did I find that 2 was common practise.

I don't think it really matters. My English teacher never cared, nor history.

Looking at my Grandad's newly released book, it appears there is only 1 space - that may be due to the justification though.

Exactly, I wouldn't wait around reading what the parachute has to say. As long as it it a parachute and not a knapsack, its good enough for me. If you don't jump you're dead anyway, no need to worry over which one to take.

Hope yours goes well. Remember, "Warning, the gas produced can irritate eyes and lungs. Do not breath in or look too near the gas when it is not being contained". I learned that from personal experience when I was emptying it - even outside! I found that opening it outside and leaving it works.

If a new universe is created for EVERY choice, thats got to be quite a few of them out there.

I wonder about the universe that was created to face the choice of not bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If we live in the one where we did, I wonder what the world is like which plays the story of not bombing them.

As a player of BF1942 for the last 3 years, I can safely say it is an amazing game. With all the modifications (i.e. Desert Combat, Forgotten Hope) that you can install on top of it, it will keep you entertained for hours.

When I had my old computer which had the most bog standard graphics (Intel Extreme Graphics) and 512mb of RAM, I could still play it. Sure, it was laggy at times but it kept me going.

Due to that rubbish computer, that was roughly the only game i could play so while saving, I only played BF1942 and the mods for over a year and to be honest, I never got bored.

Battlefield is a great game but I am sure you can get it cheaper than $50.

Here you can get BF1942 and all the expansion packs (which not many people play) plus Battlefield Vietnam - another exellent game - That is $26.95

Or you could go for the bog standard BF1942 for $17.82 here

Searching Amazon.com is a good bet for getting a good deal. Hey, you could get both the chemicals and the game.

Hi,

I am deeply interested in space and all the physical workings of it. I am 16 and so thinking to the future. I have had no career advice whatsoever. I am thinking about taking a degree in astrophysics or maybe aerospace. I am wondering which career paths would open up after taking such a degree. Would it be wide or narrow?

I have already searched the forum and found another thread like this one but that was all based on information in America and I am over here in England.

I was just pondering on some questions which I hope you may have the answer to:

1. What sort of things would you learn on the course?

2. What sort of things would you do on a daily basis as an astrophysicist/aerospace engineer?

3. In your opinion, do you think things would get repetitive over a long period of time? Would it be something I could enjoy for the rest of my working career?

4. (Of course) what is the pay like for such a career? I would be nice to end up in a field I love but it would be even better getting paid well for it.
