  1. Well the Nazis believed their way of life was the only correct way of life and everyone else should be denied basic freedoms, their arguments weren't based on objectivity, and believed they had the moral superiority to enforce their views on everyone else. It's an apt comparison.
  2. Uh, they're up to 3.0 now. We'll be upgrading to vBulletin 3 as soon as vB Portal (the front page stuff) is updated to work with it.
  3. The Hubble space telescope has produced its most amazing image yet, capturing a field of nearly 10,000 galaxies with an single picture taking 800 exposures over 11.3 days to complete. The image shows galaxies never before visible dating back to the first billion years of the universe, which includes a good amount of irregularly shaped galaxies and galaxies interacting with eachother. It's a real shame one man in NASA's fear of political criticism is destroying one of the most useful devices in the history of space. For the full press release, and lots of images: http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/newsdesk/archive/releases/2004/07/
  4. Well the biggest obstacle is the different number of chromosomes, particularly since this involves chromosome #2 in humans (aka very large), since chimps lack a compatible second chromosome, it would result in a monosomy; monosomy 2 has never been reported to survive more than a few hours.
  5. Well, if you're ever captured by the government and interrogated/tortured for information, it can be useful if you're hiding a cyanide tablet in your mouth to commit suicide so they can't get any info out of you.
  6. Particularly since the Cap'n has no idea what he's talking about. Never mix chemicals with alcohol before injecting; but clean your skin with sterile isopropyl alcohol prep pads (available OTC) before injecting (not after; it will make you bleed more). Wipe in one direction, not circular, and no more than two times with one side of the pad.
  7. God, i need to make a warning for excessive patronization.
  8. Yes. It's the official stance of ScienceForums.net that you should not inject yourself with anything unless instructed to do so by a licensed medical professional; which the ScienceForums.net administrators are not (yet).
  9. No matter how dangerous of explosives you can make with chemicals, most of them are easily available. As long as the chemical can't be used for anything related to illegal drugs, you can easily get it.
  10. I don't really think theres any other astronomical terms beginning with X... google seems to agree.
  11. Well let it cool down first obviously, preferably already in the sterile environment of the syringe.
  12. If you have to inject with tap water boil it for 10 minutes first.
  13. If you have pure drugs it's still safer to inject them with sterile solution than to inject anything with tap water...
  14. Well he's obviously not going to have the supervision of an educated person, because no educated person would let him do it at his age, hence why I directed to a injection manual The very fact that he asked why he shouldn't inject tap water makes him horribly unqualified to be injecting himself with anything for a long while...
  15. Take your denial of your blatant nazi bigotry elsewhere.
  16. Injections generally don't disrupt the blood pH unless you inject ALOT of stuff. And it's best to use a sterile saline 0.9% solution. But unless you've been TRAINED on how to properly inject yourself, don't do it, or you'll just be begging for an abscess or infection. There's a very good reason why doctors/nurses tap needles and look at the resevoir carefully and squirt a little out before injecting you with something, because a small air bubble will seriously kill you in the veins. But if you're hell bent on doing it, please read http://www.harmreduction.org/gor.html Ignore the fact it's primarily written for IDUs, it contains everything the not-so-bright-person-injecting-horribly-impure-chemicals-into-their-body people need to know.
  17. Yes, you do, you bigot.
  18. Injecting yourself with tap water will likely cause an abscess (IM) and/or serious illness (IV). Same for injecting lime water. Injecting home-made penicillin is a really bad idea because you don't know what else is growing there along with it. Eating iron fillings won't do too much besides hurt coming out the other end. A small quantity of bleach will make you vomit bad. Pyruvic/Citric acid/ATP... don't inject homemade versions of these... the impurities are bound to lead to trouble. Injecting Vitamin C wouldn't have too much of an effect unless you injected alot of it. In any case, injecting yourself with anything is a really bad idea unless you have absolutely pure materials, sterile equipment, and know proper injection techniques (i.e. don't use a high-guage 1inch needle for IM) And along the lines of what YT said, if the reason behind asking this is about an underlying problem such as injection drug use, please don't hesitate to contact me. I know a good deal about it.
  19. The HCl in your stomach is significantly more concentrated than typical, diluted HCl... it will still do some damage to your mouth and throat tho.
  20. That's life. I know it's harsh. I'm not saying they shouldn't be helped, but it is indeed their fault.
  21. And your mind is set on not taking responsibility for your own actions. You're just using the classic "it's everyone elses fault because i refuse to acknowledge I made a mistake" attitude. I assure you, I have quite a bit of first hand experience with people who have been addicted, and yes, I have used the drug in question. It IS their own fault, at least at an unconscious level. In order to become physically addicted, you have to start a pattern of regular use.
  22. Let me make my vision for drug policy clear: All evidence suggests the best way to reduce drug addiction is taking all the money spent on prohibition, and putting it towards education programs, prevention programs that aren't propaganda like now, and treatment programs for addicts. I believe all three to be of equal importance.
  23. Yes, the information does need to be more readily available. But people should seek out that information before becoming involved with something they at least have some general idea of the addictiveness and danger of.
  24. That's not what I'm saying at all, in fact I believe harm reduction and enhanced treatment programs (and no law enforcement) is the best way to deal with the drug problem. We all do, and that's where education and other forms of treatment come into play. Turning to drugs should never even be a desire. Also, if its unconscious even she might not realize it. Yes. Yes. No, however that's because I educated myself on how to avoid addiction BEFORE using the drug. I don't have all the answers, but after studying this (and more psychology in general) for a while at my university, I have a good deal of answers.
