  1. I am not sure if you have seen the construction of the millennium dome in England (http://www.rwa.org.uk/paintgs/rog1.jpg) So, why can’t we construct something like that around the whole world say in 5 billion years we would probably have the technology and the material. If we do that, we can use nuclear energy to generate light and heat and preserve the planet as it is. After all, E=MC2.

Maybe we can put in powerful nuclear propulsion systems to navigate motion of the planet? Do you think if we can do that? We can move the planet into a safe distance from the sun and watch the death of the sun? or we can even make the planet come to a complete halt in our reference frame??

We talk about building space ships and moving towards to settle in another planet. I am sure we will have the power and technology to move the planet and maybe put it into an orbit of another star maybe?

  2. I was just thinking!! When the sun dies, there is no gravity to hold our planet in orbit. Wouldn’t it be cool to turn planet earth into a space ship like the Borg ship from star trek!!! Fit some propulsion system for control and a solid shelter around the earth so it can be navigated to the nearest star?? Do you think it’s possible?

  3. I am no expert but common sense says, GET TESTED!!! I know it may not be the easiest thing to do but there is absolutely no harm in getting yourself checked out!!! If I remember correctly, the virus attacks your immune system so you are less resistant to infections, so if you are getting sick more often that normal, please get yourself checked out! You would feel much better afterwards!

  4. In case you start understanding, here's the next step, which will surely confuse you more :D

Oh WoW! It was such a good read but I understood nothing!!:-( I should really stick to my day job!!! :)

Basically we still have so much to learn about our universe and it seems like “light” is the key

It has made me think of the solar system as a single atom with the planets as electrons revolving around the nucleus (the sun).. For all we know, we could be the sub atomic particles of a greater being and what if our atoms are a solar system to another sub atomic being!!! CRAZY thinking I know but my head is going crazy!!

  5. That is not strictly true. In cavity QED you can suppress some of the photon modes (this is responsible for the Casimir force) so you exclude some of the so-called "quantum foam" of the vacuum.

    I knew it!!!

How can you possible take anything out from nothing? Isn’t that what vacuum is (nothing) BUT I did not understand any of the jargon either so I guess I have a long way to go before I start understanding QED and photon modes! :D That’s if I ever will understand it!:)

  6. Sweet, thanks for the help! Now,if there is no better medium for photons to travel through than a vacuum than is there anyway we can make the vacuum stronger & possibly increase c ? Or is this a stupid question? Very possible! :D

How can you make nothing even more nothinger? :P If you see what I mean!

A vacuum is a space with no matter in it. Think of a large room with all the air sucked out. The space in the room is now a vacuum. The room has nothing in it, which means you can’t take anything out of to make it any more vacuumer!!!

Light travels at C in a vacuum because there is nothing to slow it down and that’s the best you can get.

So the answer is NO, you cant make a vacuum stronger :)

  7. There is no constant speed in which bodies fall to earth (unless acted upon an external force for example:wind resistance), however there is a constant acceleration(~9.81m/s/s) of falling bodies(in a frictionless environment )on earth.

What happens if you constantly accelerate forever? Can you reach toward the speed of light?

Can someone please explain the equation with an example please?

  8. A photon does not need to be "powered" to keep it moving. Think of Newton's first law.))

As I understand, Mass is the amount of matter that something has in it?? I don’t see how it can change with respect to speed? No matter how fast we travel, out mass remains the same??

Light is something that we see with our eyes, so surely it must have matter thus matter = mass. I still don’t understand the fact that light has no mass but it has matter????

  9. Because when you say "mass" you are referring to the rest mass of the object.

Rest mass is the mass of an object when it is not moving.

A photon has no rest mass because it always travels at c' date=' it never stops moving, it never rests, so it cannot have a rest mass.[/quote']

I wonder what powers a photon!! If it has no mass and it’s capable of travelling such distance with such speed, where the h3ll does it get the power from???

Are you saying that a moving photon has mass but it has no mass at rest?

  10. Energy has everything to do with mass and mass (well energy) has everything to do with gravity.

Ok... if this is the case, they why does light has no mass?

  11. I found my car this morning blanketed by frost. After cleaning it, I started driving and thought if heat is a source of energy, what is “COLD”? is it negative enerty?

  12. so' date=' lets say you had a very powerful light bulb that lights into a room of 100% reflective mirrors, and you left it running for say a few thousand years lol.

The room would eventually gain a great gravitational pull on its surroundings (assuming a huge amount of energy is eventually trapped in there)?[/quote']

Are we saying that energy has nothing to do with mass? And mass has nothing to do with gravity?

  13. You wouldn't be able to see them. Anything you see represents photons being absorbed by your eye.

I was actually thinking about that!!! I understand that for us to be able to see it, the light have to travel to the eye, so if photons become motionless, we won’t be able to see anything!! WoW, simple but what an amazing fact!! So what we actually see is never in real time.. There is always a delay!!!

While I am looking at my PC Screen, the light reaching my eye is already old and what I am actually seeing is not matched up with what’s actually happening!!! If the distance between the PC and my eye is C, then you will only see my response after 2C!! That is quite amazing to think about!!

The eye – What an amazing instrument!!!!!!!

Can light have density? I guess if it has no mass, how can it have density but you said that if we keep the light on in the room, it will get brighter and brighter, eventually will it not accumulate mass?
