  1. I was in a cradle or small bed of some sort, and I remember looking up and being fascinated with a pine cone my mother had on her fireplace shelf. I must have been under 4 years old (we sold that house at that time), and I am figuring I was about 1-2 years old. Funny thing is I have a black period from the time I was around 5 to around 10 years old where I cant remember anything at all.

    3D time

I thought string had 11 dimensions and one of those dimensions was time?
  3. Nice tips. I will review that website now. Thanks for your contribution!
  4. I am planning on taking a 6-12 month trip to Honduras, Central America. In a region near where I am going, exists a ravine carved in a mountain by a river. The great part of this ravine is that it is 5 miles long, and is virtually untouched by science. The second greatest thing about the ravine is that it is a sub-tropical/torpical biome and is surrounded by grassland for hundreds of miles... Now if you dont know where I am going with this yet, I plan to fully explore the ravine and document the species which reside in it. I plan to find at least some new uniquely evolved insect species in the ravine, and anything bigger would be a divine gift! What I need though, is a catalogue of current species of Central America, specifically Honduras, and I have been having trouble finding one. Can someone aid me in this endeavor? Thanks in advance!
  5. You are making the presumption that Darwin or some other person would not have pondered evolution if the idea of God was not around. Well I will make this counterpoint... I think evolution would have been discovered earlier if God was not around. Assumptions assumptions... And if you think God is not a dangerous idea, I suggest you tally the dead who fought for him in his vast pantheon. If you think God is not a dangerous idea, I suggest you go meet the terrorists who are securing nuclear weapons and other WMDs for use against the enemys of Allah. I also think I have spent more then enough time on this.
  6. You are not alone. Most of my friends are over a decade older than me on the average.
  7. You can build a treasure trove of knowledge by simply reading. I cannot express it in any other way then to be envious of the opportunity todays youth have in gaining knowledge compared to when I was younger. Librarys combined with careful internet usage, one can achieve great feats of know how rapidly with enough determination. Good Luck!
  8. Between the years 2010 and 2013 I predict a massive earthquake, at least 2 destructive hurricanes, multiple tsunamis, and more then 5 plane crashes. I also predict a bloody war will occur in Africa. W00t! Peondamus to the rescue!
  9. This is actually a real theory, I dont remember its exact name but it might be Parrallel Universes or something like that. Its based in string theory. Interestingly, a group of scientists actually believe they can create a new big bang, and that it would literally create a universe, but it would have its own space/time, so it would not interfere with our own universe. Pretty cooky stuff! But isnt reality much cookier then anything Star Trek can come up with?
  10. Since genetics determine imprinting itself, I was merely linking the 2 together. I did not say genes were the die all of deciding things such as beauty. I merely meant that they are the beginning of such views. Just like this sentence begins with a letter and ends with a period, genes are the beginning of defining what is beauty and and the enviroment is the end all of it. This debate stemmed from obesity. I was trying to make the point that people missing limbs, who are severely obese, or have sores on the skin are viewed as "gross" because of our genetic roots. I did not articulate well and state in time the process of imprinting before this was blown out of hand. Now that we have discussed it, its really a matter on how you want to view it. I tend to view things "from the bottom up." Thus to me, genes play the deciding factor in most things we might consider to be our "choice." I have really bad grammar and dont tend to put my thoughts or words well into text, and I try to avoid debating things like this in text because of that. I am sorry if I caused any people to get upset or confused over the debate.
  11. Mokele, how would you define incorrect imprinting? In other words, Mal-Imprinting?
  12. Wow thanks Shinbits for your massive list of pointers, in fact, I just converted my entire science class to The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints. Boy did I knock them out with Jesus Logic! Oh and by the way... on point number 4: EVOLVED HUMANS ARE ALL AROUND YOU!!! Ever notice that humans consist of many races? Ummmm am I missing something here, or did God make MANY adam and eves to procreate the various races? OR did... *gasp* They EVOLVE into various races from a common ancestor over a long period of time? No wait, I got it. God painted/contorted all the cool features at the tower of Babel!! Yea thats it... *watches Mokele throw the trash out*
  13. My belief is that dreams are ways for your mind to "imprint" ideas, experiences and every single piece of "data" your mind might have perceived as important during the day in a story telling way. Consciously, you have no idea what to make of the stories, That camel in your living room might be your brains way of recording the entire experience you might have had meeting a girl that day. Your brain records it this way so that when you attempt to access that memory, you have extra pathways in your nuerons to access that memory and experience. I believe that to be the main function of dreaming. A simple way for the brain to imprint and store knowledge in a regenerative fashion, and "clear the slate" for the next days learning and experiences. As for the brain blocking things out that you may have witnessed, that actually does occur, especially during traumatic experiences. The funny thing is, the brain also imprints permanently many details of such experiences as well as block them out. Animals dream as well, and thus I would not draw the conclusion that we can see extraordinary things and forget them until we dream. My dog barks often when he dreams, and I would expect no less. Does he dream of seeing a T-Rex and only musters the courage to bark at it when dreaming? Or does he go on a "hunting trip" in his mind as a way of patternizing his existence? I would guess the latter. If you want to hear crazy.. I used to believe dreaming was a way to access other dimensions and universes, sort of like a mental wormhole. But that is clearly science fiction in my opinion and I no longer believe that.
  14. I have not read this book yet. I guess I will give it a go, but I am sure it cant contain original ideas some might have come up with here. Oh well seemed like a good idea at the time. Thanks for the book suggestion.
  15. Ok here is the scenario. I will try to keep it simple for a reasonable diagnosis. I had installed windowsxp home, and then I proceeded to install my new mobo drivers, but I left the 4 in 1 drivers for last (why I dont know, im an idiot I guess). Well, upon reset, I was going to install the drivers when as soon as I got to windows the comp would reset. I could only get to the OS in safe mode, and even then the comp would reset if I attempted to even browse the mobo driver CD. So I tried to reinstall windows itself, but when its loading the initial drivers it hangs on "Generic USB parent driver" most of the time, but also hangs on random others as well, and then stops reading the disk! I cant reinstall anything so I am stuck in a loop. I tried making a boot disk so I could format C:\ in DOS but I can only find floppy versions, and I dont have a floppy drive. Please help!
  16. I hope I am placing this in the right forum... I always try to imagine worlds where life springs up, and try to imagine how it would have evolved. I wanted to hear what others came up with as well. I am not sure if this has been published anywhere, but im gonna go ahead and put forward this idea I came up with to start it off.. Imagine a world where the micro-organisms used only symbiotic competition to evolve , instead of the earthly mix of symbiosis, parasitic, and outright murderous forms of competition (I call this the "cain and abel" gene). These life forms all work together. You may use your imagination to invision what they would look like, but I prefer to imagine them as "blobs" of gel like fluid, containing the living cells. These blobs form an "ocean" of organisms which all have specific functions that would allow the whole lot of them to survive. Kinda wierd, but im sure some of you have even wierder ideas! Lets hear em.
  17. I never understood beyond narcissism why anyone would even want or try to somehow "win" in a scientific debate. Proving facts and figures to correct some one is one thing, but twisting words to make yourself "win" is inane in my opinion and counter-productive. Sorry I needed to say that, cause after reading the above thread where he got banned, I found myself getting irritated reading his posts, which is odd for some one with much patience like I have.
  18. No gay gene exists... only gay men and women. http://www.narth.com/docs/istheregene.html "The "genetic and unchangeable" theory has been actively promoted by gay activists and the popular media. Is homosexuality really an inborn and normal variant of human nature? No. There is no evidence that shows that homosexuality is simply "genetic." And none of the research claims there is. Only the press and certain researchers do, when speaking in sound bites to the public."
  19. Greetings! If you are a good record keeper, I found that in the past when I recorded all of my caloric intake and held a steady exercise regiment I could tell what calories/exercises I needed in quantity for future "cycles." Its alot of work at first, but once you learn your body you can control it much better without starving/overeating and also avoid overtraining or even undertraining. Good luck!
  20. I find that highly unlikely... dinosaurs would have died off long before freezing as the continent drifted to the south pole.
  21. Dude..... look at the caption to the left... "Einsteins brain comes to life." LOL its a hoax.
  22. Urgh... Its not about "addiction" its about "stimulation." We all take part in the stimulis struggle, its an inherent part of being human, and other animals face it too. Someone who is overstimulated in some parts of the lives they lead will gear them towards understimulating hobbies, such as fishing. Many people with layed back lifestyles will seek greater stimuli. Realize these stimulations can come from a variety of sources; sex, drugs, flying kites, driving, etc. A rare animal indeed is the human who can balance the stimulis struggle to a point where his stimulation "pendulum" is always near the center of its swing. Most of us crash from one side to the other without even realizing it. Marijuana is one of those stimulations people seek because its a wonderous drug in the fact that it can either hype you up and cause greater stimulation, or slow us down and cause us to relax, all depending on mood. I worked as security in a club for a long time, and I can tell you this much... Its much easier to deal with and remove an individual under the influence of marijuana then dealing with someone under the influence of alchohol. Usually the latter must be removed through violence and force, while the former can be convinced to leave without so much as touching them. Lastly, illegalizing pot in the USA was a racist, political move against minorities the government had issues with at the time, much like Opium was illegalized because of the Asians in the 1900-1920s who were working in the west on railroads. I wont go in depth, but if you think marijuana is illegal because its bad for you you are sadly mistaken..
