  1. I'm pretty sure that some will survive at least. We're not going to just allow ourselves to become extinct. We will build shelters (such as the vaults in Fallout 3) and use the vast seed-banks to keep us alive. We won't go extinct, but if it gets to an unbearable point for humanity, many will die.... not all. Then we just repopulate. Think... they will probably charge to reserve a spot in these vaults... which means all the rich hot babes will be there. re population shouldn't be a problem
  2. Sorry. 14 year old mistake. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedDo you think the Earth is going to cool down? I mean... the Earth does cycle, and it WILL eventually cool down. (Hasn't the Earth been cooling lately anyways?) (And DON'T bash me for saying that. I don't know ANYTHING, that's y i'm here.) What do you think is going to happen in the long run?
  3. Alright.... look. I'm absolutely not an expert on Global Warming whatsoever. Sorry iNow. This is my high unprofessional view on the subject. Water vapor, a greenhouse gas, is the number one cause of all global warming... it is the NATURAL driving force behind how the earth warms/cools. Here is a nice website I found. The number you want to look at is the 0.28% we humans contribute to the problem if Water Vapor is included. it makes absolutely no sense to NOT include water vapor, since it is in our atmosphere and it does contribute. I haven't really had time to read all of the posts since mine, but here is the source i have. http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/greenhouse_data.html
  4. Welll..... it's due tomorrow and i've pretty much already built the whole thing. Here's what it's like... (i'll post a picture later) It's base is like a block of Balsa wood about 1 inch thick, 2.25 inches wide and just over 10 inches long. We cut a long slit towards the back half of the wood to allow the drive wheel (yes... only one drive wheel) through to touch the ground. For ther front axle, I found a nice piece of 1 inch square steel tubing. I drilled a 5/8 hole through both sides of it with a drill press for the carbon fiber axle. I went out and bought some Ball Bearings to slip into the holes i drilled for the axle. I slipped the axle through the ball bearings to complete the axle. I'll put the rest up later... since we're testing it right now... well.. we know it works... it's just the radio controlled part we're testing now. (yes... we put a servo on it. just to turn it... not to push it.) Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedHAHA! 191 feet. 2nd place was like 87 or something.
  5. I'm doing the same project (more or less) but mine's in the Engineering Thread. I have to build a car and etc. As for your problem tho... what about tissue paper? It's extreamly light, has a lot of serface area and can be reinforced with balsa wood to keep it strong under the pressude/forces/weight? you can find them online and in hobby shops if you want. I was thinking that if you used a really small servo, and reversed it you might beable to get a little more out of the spring. What if you cut away from the mousetrap base to allow the spring to travel farther? and if you look at the side of a Victor mousetrap, the actual trap/arm thing forms a square shape. There is a small pin sticking out of the side that you might be able to weld a longer arm onto. the trap wouldn't travel very far, but whatever prop you attached would have a lot of starting tourqe. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedoh.... and how about a helicopter?
  6. hey... you like physics... any ideas about a mousetrap car?

  7. I'm 14, around 6 foot, and i can dunk man. It's a about your power to weight ratio. Work out and eat healthy. I eat nothing but crap and junk food, so i wonder what my vertical would be if i was 100% healthy. (and my back would stay uninjured for longer than 5 minutes.)
  8. Yea... I'm Catholic and attend a Catholic Private School.... The Church says that killing unborn children in the form of research is wrong ad shouldn't happen. Now, I don't really know anything about stem-cell research, but i do believe they use unborn fetuses to produce the stem cells, Right? If they do, then thats the Churches problem with the whole thing. They believe the kids have the right of life and should be able to choose their way of life. Each child should be able to live their life in the 'light of god' and choose their path. Something like that anyways. I say... clone the stem cells.... (of course then the Church would complain about that too) It's that point where science and religion collide.
  9. lol.... Have you ever had one?
  10. Crap. All of it. Ever heard of the Earth's natural climate change? I do believe we just came out of an ice age... We will heat up, then cool down, then heat up again. It's just how it goes. We hardly contribute to the 'global warming' pollution. is it like... 5%? or less? anyways... present some really hard evidence (That's not from the EPA) and we'll see. Are we as humans helping the situation? No. Do i believe the Earth is indeed warming up? Yes. Are we in control of it? No. Are we the sole cause of it? No. It's just a normal thing the Earth has done and always will do. (until the sun goes super nova or something)
  11. Mine get's thrown on the floor and picked back up by the power cord that is duct taped in. Seriously. It's called a Panasonic Toughbook and it's amazing. However... y does it matter? if thats all you have time to worry about... lol... i love the floating laptop tho. (I say just mount it in your shower. Waterproof it, and then keep it in there. We all know we have amazing brainstorms while taking showers. Might not score points with your wife/girlfriend.. but it'd impress me.)
  12. Hey, my names PoWn3d_0704, or John, or whatever someone calls me. I'm in 8th Grade and i love Call of Duty. Play the game wayyyy to much, but it's my life. I'm a serious geek who loves Red Bull and not sleeping (cause i'm with a friend playing Call of duty all night) I'm currently working on a mousetrap car for my physical science final and that thread is in the Engineering forum. (have ideas, well.... please post them up on my thread.)
  13. Yes.. I can also see your point there... A helicopter could get complicated on the whole balance aspect. It still has to move forwards. We (well they, i'm just giving advice and ideas) are making a model of the Kittyhawk. That first airplane by the wright brothers. We're not sure if we're going to use the prop at all for the actual competition, but just the body w/ wheels. We are defiantly going to get this to work afterwards though. Like you said though... the sail servo is way too heavy and the mouse trap itself is almost too much. The reason they are using the Kittyhawk is because of the two wings, one in front and one in back. It SHOULd provide lift from both ends of the airplane. Thoughts?
  14. Yes... i see your point... sorry. I was basically wondering about how to get the RPMs up high enough for lift off. If you look on the side of the mousetrap, the arm has a little thing tat spins... i know it's not very specific... but you have to look at trap to really get it. I was wondering if cutting the bottom part of the mouse trap off to let the thing spin constantly at just hooking that straight up to the prop. That should give me the torque to get lift off, but i don't think it would spin for very long. Gear reduction is the only other idea... and i need to decide. Thanks for the input anyways, and my entire car is carbon fiber. Not the lightest material i could have used... but defiantly the best (i think)
