  1. Welcome. I too am fairly new. I think you will find that this site is good for your brain. Also, an "official introduce yourself" thread is already started. Just go to community then general discussion; you will see it there.

Absolutely. Many of history's "enlightened" figures developed/explored spirituality via intoxicants, fasting, sweat lodges, sleep deprivation, and so on.

Thanks for the link. What an amazing experience she is able to share. Vivid example of of your statement regarding altered states of consciousness. I am curious what her level of spirituality was like before her stroke. I think it is a healthy thing, regardless of the catalyst, to wonder about our existence....to question what we are. I don't plan on turning my life over too nature anytime soon; still going to take antibiotics and kill termites.

I don't think I truly worry about it. It does, however, make me wonder if this is where man's ideas of gods and reincarnation stem from. It also makes me stop and think before squashing a bug.

As I have grown older, and hopefully wiser, I have developed a feeling of being more connected to the things around me. The killing of a spider or an ant, now feels damaging to myself. The last time I had to cut down a tree, I felt as if I had changed a part of something beyond that tree. Something beyond my knowledge. I have wondered if all things in the universe are not somehow linked. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't all things on earth spring from the same(original)matter and energy? Therfore, am I not just as connected to the first rock as I am to the first human? Am I alone in this sense of a giant collective ONE?

  7. I remember the Y2K scare, but was not aware of so many others. When 2000 was nearing my brother-in-law(retired from TRW)was telling all of us that every computer in the world would stop working, and that the world would fall into chaos. I am a Landscape Contractor; I told him that since the $200 irrigation controllers I installed were Y2K ready, I found it hard to believe his prediction. 2000 passed without problem. He never had much to say about it after that.
  8. Nostradamus aside; is there any scientific data available that supports influences on earth(good or bad)by the predicted galactic alignment?
  9. MysteriBoi, thank you for your input. That does help some. It puts a more rational definition to what the alignement is. If some predictions are true, and in 2012 the alignment occurs.....is there any scientific data demonstrating an effect(negative or positive) on earth?
  10. Much is being said regarding a galactic alignment in 2012. My children recently saw a program on doomsday prophecy, and now they are freaked out about 2012. I did some research, but did not see a clearly scientific statement as to the alignment being fact or hoax. Can you help?
  11. An interesting idea. Think of all the surface area out there in road ways, soaking up and storing solar energy. Not only enough to power autos but also power the cities. I have wondered about something along the same line of thinking....only my roadways contained super cooled magnets which then interacted with magnets in the vehicles.

  14. Agree. Rational point of view.
  15. Wow, thats a loaded question. Since the question itself is inherently racist(not saying you are)most folks would stay away from it. I suspect if you do some rersearch you will find that socioeconomic differences between study groups would be the determining factor in IQ test performance.
  16. Fast food, in my opinion, has become too necessary. A huge percentage of the population would be lost with out it. It makes a good argument for de-evolution. The mass production technologies that suposedly make our lives so much better, eventually leave us dependent, unhealthy, and lacking in the skills to produce what we need for ourselves. However, I am one of the sheep, I eat alot of fast food.
  17. I will be pondering this for a while now. Thanks for bring this to the forum. Great stuff!!!!
  18. I agree with NowThatWeKnow, in that upon return the twins could agree that a specific event had happened one year ago. However, the passing of that year would be different for each individual. The "time stamp" on the "now" would be relative to where the twin was. Perhaps a good argument for time not existing at all. Since, in this scenario, time is relative and not a contant...is "time" then mearly an individual's perception of an event relative to where they are?
  19. Hi, I am Baub. I am a new member; just registered today. I need to exercise my brain! It has begun to feel as if the average person i encounter just does not have an interest in talking about anything intellectually stimulating.
