  1. well, I beleive one would extract the genetic information of a particular subject, then take the genetic information of another early zygote {or was it embryo} and squirt in the subjects DNA, then implant that zygote into a momma and whalla. A clone. I know this is very simplified, mabe someone else can give you a more detailed explanation. I beleive this is the way they went about cloning, Dolly I think it was, the sheep in Europe a while back.

  2. Oh, sorry, I have Windows Xp. I tried both, it is still not working. I go to it, right click, press open with internet explorer, and it still just goes back to the file page that says what it is {intro to robotics, etc...} with a file icon, but when I click it, it goes to its contents and looks like a whole bunch of words with icons above them. if I click on one of those, theres even more words and icons. thanks for the help so far.

  3. I have been having this computer trouble, wich I just cant find out what it is all about. If anyone can help me with this, that would be magnanimous, thank you.

So, I go on the MIT opencourseware, I download a ZIP file, I try to extract all files and make a new one, but it still seems to stay the same. The icon has changed from the zipped up folder to a 1/4'th open folder, but other than that, its just the same. I try to click it, and what happens is I just go through the seperate documents in it, like the readme. right next to the Welcome, and the Ocweb, etc.... and when I click one of those, it just gives me a whole bunch of text and html. commands and stuff along those lines, and not the program that I tryed to download. Can anyone help me with this?

Also, I am not able to download PDF. files either. I can, and it saves on my computer, but whenever I try to open it, it just opens a blank screen for about half a second and then quickly closes out. This may be connected with the ZIP problem, I dont know. If not, it would still be rather cool if someone knew what that problem was too.

    Thanks.

This would require a force that becomes more powerful/attractive as there is less energy available in the universe.

    Why is this?

I like your idea, I think that you should implement mathmatic structers in there along with it though. Most theories {in physics especially} need math to pass.

My idea looks a lot like a string, in the center there is the most amount of energy/mass and gradually towards the ends of the string, you get lesser energy. Draw in one line a lot of waves with high amplitude and short frequency and then gradually drop the amplitude and elongate the frequency until you get a perfectly flat line. This is the half of your string. What you see can look familiar, it looks alot like a string on a music instrument. But the string on a music instrument transmits its energy to the frame and so the string comes back to a rest. My string doesn't transmits its energy onto anything else. The string doesn't transmit its energy to empty space, it is (the transition of mass to) time-space. My string only gets longer as it looses energy, the energy is stored in all the high waves. As matter decays it exchanges energy for length of the string

Sounds very similiar to the string theory.

  5. We're talking about human consciousness
I thought that we were talking about conscioussness in general. My mistake.

Emotion plays a huge part in social interaction. Do you think it's just a coincidence that the same part of our brain which recognizes faces also couples emotions with memories?

I didnt even know that they did. Thanks for the info.

Although, does that{the part of the brain that recognizes...} really make it needed for consciousness? Does that not just make it so you can recognize a person and also have an opinion about them? We dont need to judge people to socialize do we?

Socialization is how we acquire natural language as well as world knowledge
What about through experience? Maybe the natural language is socialization dependant, but world knowledge can be accumulated through plenty of others than only socialization, as it is.

Why exactly does socialization need emotions?

    Is curiosity emotion dependant?

It as in the consciousness? Or it as in the being harboring that consciousness?
    The being.

Try to spend today thinking about which of your decisions and memories aren't influenced by emotion. If you come back with three examples I'll concede your point.

    I cant really do that because AFAIK, no one knows exactly what makes up conscioussness, and since your memories are mostly connected with emotions, its kind of tough. {but I did try}

While I think it might be possible to create an entity with consciousness comparable to a human while remaining devoid of emotion, I really can't fathom how such a being would behave or interact.

I agree. I am only focusing learning and on whether or not it is possible for something to be consciouss without emotions, not how usefull or good at interacting with its environment or others consciouss beings would be.

  6. Do you live in a specific state or province? Unless your willing to travel quite a lot, I dont think anyone can help you out too much unless they know how big in the vicinity that you are willing to travel and where that area that is.

  7. From what I read about the Iron-Sulfur world theory, It is the idea of a metabolism first rather than RNA first, I was not focusing on Iron-Sulfur clusters{although, thanks for the info}. From what I understand, they are both hypothesis's for how the current state of life might have evolved from.

  8. Yep, but we call it "gene therapy" when applied to humans

So there is no difference whatsover between mutations from UV rays vs. errors in mitosis that escapes apoptosis?

    Just want to make sure.

Virus DNA (and RNA) is subject to all the same mutagens as our DNA, and typically lacks the proofreading (in whole or in part) that we have in our polymerases. In addition, some viruses (like flu) can reassort -- basically mix and match similar genes.

Just how often do viruses mutate? I know that it varies in different viruses, like HIV mutates really often, when the cold mutates no as much, but, just how often does say the flu virus mutate? How long does it take for it to adapt to its environment, {on average}, in say an environment, like a chicken egg vs. it being used to living in a human?

    Thanks for the info.

  9. I can, and it's devoid and meaningless...

Why do you think that? I am not saying that your veiw is wrong, just questioning.

I think that an emotionless consciousness is not meaningless, we could make it have a better memory and have it surpass humans, it could benifit humanity in many ways in my opinion.

Thanks Bascule and YdoaPs for the info and the videos by the way.I downloaded them all. I tried to give you rep points YdoaPs, but I guess I gave you some recently or something because it doesnt let me.
