There is a concrete etching chemical made by Sika that I saw today at my local Home Depot it is a transparent liquid with a slight yellow tint. Ingredients Contains Phosphoric Acid, Nitric Acid.. I would assume water as well and hopefully no detergents. Is there a way to separate these acids? My first guess was to boil them off at a specific temp. leaving the h3po4 behind which decomps at 316F.

hey i was just wondering if it would be possible to replace the sulfur from a thio compound with an oxygen. for example: if i have potassium thiocyanate (KSCN) would it be possible to react it with something to replace the sulfur with an oxygen, leaving me with potassium cyanate (KOCN). Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated! thanks, rick

I'm interested in making CaBr2 using NaBr. This is the current idea I've come up with: 2 NaBr(aq) + H2SO4(aq) ---> 2 HBr(aq) + Na2SO4(aq) From here, I would cool the solution in an ice bath to precipitate the Na2SO4 (wikipedia says 4.76g of Na2SO4 dissolves in 100ml), and remove the precipitate. So that would mean in a 1L solution, 47.6g would be dissolved, which is 0.3351 moles of Na2SO4 dissolved. From here, mainly HBr would remain in the solution. Next, I'd add Ca(OH)2: 2 HBr(aq) + Ca(OH)2 ---> CaBr2(aq). Does this method seem sound? Also, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'll start out with a general foreword, I have done a little research, but instead of just shooting this down immediately, I would appreciate some responses. Not sure if I'm going to pursue this yet, but I have access to large quantities of used pc's. I saw another sfn thread that dealt with aqua regia reclimation. http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30751 But then I came across this. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3957505.html Now generally, I think that I understand this. When it said, iodide-iodine solution, do you think that means like a potassium iodide solution? It can't be liquid iodine because of iodine's sublimation...…

I had read that we can compare the strengths of different oxyacids by counting the number of oxygen atoms borne by them, e.g.: HNO3 is stronger than HNO2, likewise H2SO4 is stronger than H2SO3. But what can we say about the comparison of HNO3 with H2SO4? Moreover, shoudn't H2CO3 be a strong acid as its also got 3 oxygen atoms? Kindly post in your explanations Im eagerly awaiting one.. (If one of you can give a fundamental approach to resolve most acid and base strengths, it would be highly appreciated)

What happens when you mix sodium bicarbonate and citric acid? It looked like something blue was formed formed. I am not sure because I remember seeing this reaction a long time ago, but I think that one or both of them dissolved in either vegtable oil or water? I know that this is vague, but any help would be appreciated.

I bought a drain cleaner the other day, and it compromises of NaOH in small pellets... about 0.7mm in diameter, and aluminum shavings, about the same size (they look like aluminum foil rolled into balls). Does anyone know how to easily seperate the two? Any ideas will do.

I'm looking for help balancing a chemical equation. I've read that sulfuric acid can synthesized by heating sulfur and sodium/potassium nitrate and dissolving the resulting gas in water. I'm guessing that the gas would be sulfur dioxide, the solution sulfurous acid, then oxidizing into sulfuric acid from sulfurous acid and atmospheric oxygen. Can someone show me a balanced equation of the sulfur/saltpeter reaction? and point out any flaws in my thinking? I was also thinking of dissolving the sulfur dioxide in hydrogen peroxide to directly create sulfuric acid. thanks

Can i reduce zinc oxide with carbon powder ?? Well yes it is posible because i googled it but is it actuly posible for amature like myself ?? At what temp would the reaction start ?? Will the reaction give off enough Heat to continue the reaction like thermite eg can i have a mix of ZnO and C powder then just ignite with magnessium ribbon ?? The heat of the reaction will vapourise zinc produced ?? Any catalists that could help?? I am doing this to get zinc as the end product .is there an easier way to reduce ZnO ??? Thanx for any help

hey i just got a few questions, if anyone can help itd be most appreciated. ok my questions: ok i mixed some copper with some sulfuric acid (from a car battery) and heated. the copper dissolved, which i thought it would. i heated it till the h2so4 was concentrated and i bubbled the gas through a solution of na2co3 and water. first it went a bit blue, then the solution fizzed and turned a yellow colour. when the acid evaporated, i was left with a grey crystal soild. (that was the second time i did the experiement, the first time i stopped evaporating the liquid when the solution was a few mls. the solution had white crystals on the bottom, when i added water the s…

I'm running a reaction in an environment where I'd like to use a compound that removes oxygen from the total system. What would be the best economical, oxidizable compound, that doesn't corrode stainless steel and doesn't react with water? Thanks to anyone that can help!

It seems that it's pretty much impossible to screw up a batch of biodiesel when you use KOH. I've made many small batches using NaOH - but my oil titrated pretty high and NaOH didn't seem to be able to handle it well. I had many failed 2 liter batches. I've been playing around with the recipe with KOH and tried reducing the amount of methanol per the recommendation of another biodieseler on this site .It was a good suggestion, as I dropped about a gallon of methanol out of the mix and didn't have any real repercussions. My initial yield was a little lower, but we'll see what happens. I've found that by placing my glycerin into a barrel and letting it continue working, I c…

When taking medicine we usually drink warm water, and then why can not use tea? Is the following answer right? Tea contains tannic acid, it will appear chemical reaction with various ingredients in the medicine, so that it will reduce the effect even failure. For example, when anemia patients take iron dose, it will react of tannic acid and become tannic acid iron that difficulty to be absorbed into the body.
