The problem is the integral of 1/[math]x^{.2}[/math] from x=0 to x=8. Apparently it's not divergent, but the problem 1/[math]x^{1.4}[/math] is and I understand that. Why is one divergent and not the other, and how would I get the area of 1/[math]x^{.2}[/math] from x=0 to x=8?

Ok so I'm trying to finish my Pre-Calc project and I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. Here is the problem: I have a student loan for $32,016. For loan 1, the interest rate is 5%. Loan 2 has an interest rate of 6.8%. I am putting $400 each month toward the loan and am trying to figure out how long it will take to pay off each loan. Can anyone figure out what I am doing wrong? Obviously loan 1 will be payed off quicker but I keep getting loan 2 as the quicker payoff. I attached the problem. Hopefully it comes out ok. Thanks for any help loan problem.txt

So I was absent the day it was discussed in class, so I want some help. Here's the question from the book I'm using: " Write the electron dot structure for the compounds formed from the combination of the given pairs of elements. Identify the bonds formed between them." So what topics should I read about, and how is it done?

Hello all: I am unsure if my answer to the following answer is correct. Could someone please confirm or refute it? Thank you! P.S.: If someone could tell me how to enter chemical formulas with LaTex without the italics, I would appreciate it as well! --- 1. What is the oxidation number of S in sulfolane [math]C_4 H_8 O_2 [/math] ? Structure: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sulfolane-2D-skeletal.png --- Explanation for my work: My answer is +4 for S's oxidation number. According to the image, S is double bonded to the two oxygens so the formula must be [math]C_4 H_8 SO_2 [/math]. Therefore, I treated the [math]C_4 H_8 [/mat…

If your hot coffee loses 50 kJ of energy as it cools and the volume shrinks because of thermal contraction, how large is the change in the internal energy of the coffee? How large is the change in the enthalpy? Explain. a) +50 kJ b) -50 kJ c) >50 kJ d)>-50kJ e)<50 kJ f)<-50 kJ (I really don't know where to get started on this problem. If someone could give me a thorough explanation, I'd greatly appreciate it!) Thanks in advance!

  12. Hey, I have a question in the book, solved it one way, and the book solution in cramster has another way. I am not sure if I'm right or not, since in the case of these questions, multiple cases for solutions are possible. Any help would be appreciated here.. where was I wrong (was I?) Question: So.. I started with the premise that [math]\frac{dQ}{dt} = Rate In - Rate Out[/math] Rate In: [math]\frac{2}{4} (1+ \frac{1}{2} sint)Q[/math] Rate Out: [math]Q/100 * 2[/math] So, [math]\frac{dQ}{dt} = \frac{1}{2} (1+ \frac{1}{2} sint)Q - Q/50[/math] [math]= Q\left( \dfrac{1}{2} (1+2sint)-\frac{1}{50} \right) [/math] [math] \frac{1}{Q} dQ - \…

We recently did a lab involving a mixture of three proteins; two known and one unknown, and the goal is to determine the identity of the unknown. After we took the absorbances of all the fractions at three different wavelengths, we were asked to "prepare a graphof OD600 that includes all three absorbance profiles". I have absolutely no idea what OD600 is, since we did not take the absorbance at 600 nm, nor how I could put all three wavelengths on one graph. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  14. Kieran takes off down a 50 m high, 10° slope on his jet-powered skis. The skis have a thrust of 400 N. The combined mass of skis and Kieran is 50 kg (the fuel mass is negligible). Kieran's speed at the bottom is 40 m/s. What is the coefficient of kinetic friction of his skis on snow? So far my work shows... I know that force due to mass and gravity is 490. I'll call it [math]F_{g}[/math]. I found it's x and y components to be [math]F_{xg}[/math]= 85.1 and [math]F_{yg}[/math]= 482.6. So [math]F_{N}[/math] is 482.6. That gets me one step closer because I know I need to solve [math]F_{k}[/math]=[math]M_{k}[/math][math]F_{N}[/math]. I don't know how to find the force …

in how many ways can the equation [math] x_1 + x_2 + x_3 ......+ x_n = c[/math] be solved for integer solutions. This apparently uses the multinomial coefficients.though I could not understand how . Also, what are the solutions if [math]x_1[/math] has constraint on it like < 10,etc. thanks in advance.

  18. Need a study break - Learn about water catchment management (via a game)! Catchment Detox is an online game where you're in charge of a whole water-catchment. You get to decide what activities you undertake (cropping? restoration?) with the aim of fixing environmental problems and providing food and wealth for the population … and you can get an idea of just how difficult it is to manage a river catchment! eWater CRC developed a part of its catchment management software (CONCEPT) into a challenging online game. Unfortunately I am close to what you would call math notationally illiterate and I have found that to understand physics formulas translating it to a language which I know helps. I have this formula... After translating it I have... function newtons_law_of_gravitation($G,$m1,$m2,$r12){ # ^ unit vector # r12 vector from m1 to m2 # m1 mass 1 (kg) # m2 mass 2 (kg) # F1 force on m1 ( Newtons ) $F1 = ( ($G * $m1 * $m2) / pow($r12,2) ) * $r12; return $F1; } Is this essentially correct? All of the items above the line are multiplied and then r12 below the line is multiplied to the power of two and then used to divide what is abo…
