Going to school at age 25?

At 17/18 most people are ready to go off to college. However for people like me I never had enough money to attend one and at 18 my parents did not want to fill out fasfa either so it took awhile for them to even say it was okay. I thought I would get a job at 18 and than go to college but that did not really work even now that I have training I cant find anything in that field. I was going to join service since they pay your college but at the same time it takes 4 years before you can get out so if I start college it will be at age 25/26. I really dont have enough money to attend school and I have no financial support from my parents. Whats it like going to college at 25? I know your probably not going to have the same fun experience you might get when your going to school at 17 since your going to be older than most of the class. I know there is a lot of colleges that expect 17 year old freshmen.

I graduated high school early and went to work and I didn't go to college until I was in my 30's. I found it easier to focus on studies rather than the social tomfoolery of the younger students. (I got the tomfoolery out of my system when I was at their age nonetheless.) I sat in the front of classes so I could see & hear the instructor better as well as put the distractions of the youth behind me. I paid for it through grants, tutoring, scholarships, and working.

I didn't start college until I was about 26 myself and it went fine. I can definitely second what Acme is saying about it being easier to focus on your studies. Many of the specialties will also have their own training schools. The study skills and credits you pick up can also help.

I believe one of the officer programs allow you to attend college first. That may also be of interest.

If you haven't taken the test already, I do recommend using an ASVAB prep book beforehand. Easy route to increased choices.
