Toxin - antitoxin system

Hello science lovers,

I have a question regarding toxin-antitoxin systems; why do the cells that don't inherit the plasmid containing genes encoding for poison and antidote die? If they don't inherit that plasmid, they will not have genes that encode for neither the poison nor the antidote, but why do they die if they can't produce poison that would eventually kill them?

Thank you!
