  1. Yes and that's probably why the image says: "hazmat incident" and not something else. Dangerous goods are solids, liquids, or gases that can harm people, other living organisms, property, or the environment. They are often subject to chemical regulations. In the United States and sometimes in Canada, dangerous goods are more commonly known as hazardous materials, (abbreviated as HAZMAT or HazMat). "HazMat teams" are personnel specially trained to handle dangerous goods. Dangerous goods include materials that are radioactive, flammable, explosive, corrosive, oxidizing, asphyxiating, biohazardous, toxic, pathogenic, or allergenic. Also included are physical conditions such as compressed gases and liquids or hot materials, including all goods containing such materials or chemicals, or may have other characteristics that render them hazardous in specific circumstances. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dangerous_goods If the smoke is unhealthy and the wind suddenly turns then he better have a very fast car ready.
  2. It would have to be a very remarkable accident if several individual systems goes off but the plane remains able to change course and continue to fly for more than seven hours. As I understand it those maneuvers was made by skilled pilots and if there was a problem but the plane could still be steered, then the pilots should opt to make an emergency landing where search and rescue would be swift and practical. It's certainly possible with a failed hijack, but even so, why choose and continue to fly in that direction? Regarding murderous intent, the 9/11 event clearly showed that hundreds of people can be killed just like that.
  3. Malaysian prime minister: Missing flight MH370 ended in Indian Ocean and no one on board survived /snip/ Mr Najib explained that new satellite data showed the Malaysian Airlines plane had flown through the southern corridor in the Indian Ocean, where its journey ended. /snip/ It is still unclear whether any wreckage has actually been recovered although searches are still ongoing... http://metro.co.uk/2014/03/24/malaysian-prime-minister-missing-flight-mh370-ended-in-indian-ocean-and-no-one-on-board-survived-4676844/ So, it's likely that the plane got hijacked, turned around and flied straight out over open water with nowhere to land for several hours until it ran out of fuel and then crashed into the ocean. Why would anyone do this? - If all they wanted was to crash the plane and kill the passengers, then why continue flying for several hours? - If it was an act of terrorism then why have they not released any political statements? - If it was a criminal attempt then why has there not been any demand for ransom? The only logical explanation I can think of is that they, for some still unknown reason, wanted the plane to disappear mysteriously without any trace but the satellite pings gave away their last location and ruined the scheme. Hopefully the black box will be found and contain enough data to provide a thorough explanation.
  4. In the news on the radio they said that satellites have found two large pieces of wreckage that could be from the airplane, somewhere in the Indian Ocean. Ships are said to currently be on their way there to investigate but they had a long way to travel so it will take several hours before they can confirm it. [EDIT] Found this article in Daily News: Supposed objects from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 being investigated John Young, manager of Australian Maritime Safety Authoritys emergency response division, said two objects one being almost 80 feet long have been spotted in the Indian Ocean using satellite imagery. Military search planes were dispatched to investigate. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/2-objects-missing-malaysia-airlines-jet-australian-pm-article-1.1727548
  5. EdEarl if you put around your links to images they will show up directly and we don't have to click on the link to see it. The software will convert it to look like this before posting: But when you have posted it, we can all see it like this:
  6. But for to completely turn off the ACARS you would need expert knowledge and access to the electronics bay below cockpit. The hijackers didn't likely know about this, so now we have a trace to where they might be, still a big search area though. But to turn off the other part of the ACARS, it would be necessary to go to an electronics bay beneath the cockpit. Thats something a pilot wouldnt normally know how to do, Goglia said, and it wasnt done in the case of the Malaysia plane. Thus, the ACARS transmitter continued to send out blips that were recorded by the Inmarsat satellite once an hour for four to five hours after the transponder was turned off. The blips dont contain any messages or data, but the satellite can tell in a very broad way what region the blips are coming from and adjusts the angle of its antenna to be ready to receive message in case the ACARS sends them. Investigators are now trying to use data from the satellite to identify the region where the plane was when its last blip was sent. http://www.nst.com.my/latest/font-color-red-missing-mh370-font-3-pieces-of-evidence-point-to-jet-s-takeover-1.515830 Possible last known locations of MH370 in red, based on final satellite ping at 08:11 Malaysia time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_370 The only possible location to land slightly secret in the south path seems to be at the small Christmas Island Airport, but if they had I think they should have been revealed by now, so if the plane is still intact then they likely took the north path.
  7. The report of military radar detection has been withdrawn as "inaccurate and incorrect" reported by media: On 11 March, it was reported that military radar indicated the aircraft turned west and continued flying for 70 minutes before disappearing near Pulau Perak; and that it was tracked flying at a lower altitude across Malaysia to the Malacca Strait. This last location is approximately 500 km (311 mi) from its last position in contact with air traffic control. The next day Rodzali Daud denied making the statements as reported in the media, requesting that the misreporting be "amended and corrected to prevent further misinterpretations of what is clearly an inaccurate and incorrect report". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_370
  8. Wikipedia has some basic information for those interested: Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370/MAS370), also marketed as China Southern Airlines flight 748 (CZ748) through a codeshare, was a scheduled passenger flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China. On 8 March 2014, the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft operated by Malaysia Airlines disappeared in flight with 227 passengers on board from 15 countries, most of whom were Chinese, and 12 crew members. The aircraft last made contact with air traffic control less than an hour after take-off. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_370 I think it's strange that they can't make a clear statement whether or not they have received signals from the onboard maintenance systems after the plane went missing. The airline reported in its eleventh press release that all of its aircraft are fitted with an Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), a system that automatically transmits data about the status of the aircraft, but added "Nevertheless, there were no distress calls and no information was relayed." When Malaysian officials were asked by a Flightglobal reporter if they had any ACARS information or not, the officials declined to comment. ...Follow-up reporting by Reuters suggested that a cessation of engine reports did not necessarily mean there was no evidence of continued flight as the evidence may have taken the form of "pings" sent by the aircraft's maintenance troubleshooting systems that indicated to satellites it was merely ready to communicate as opposed to sending reports. The Wall Street Journal then corrected its story to drop references to Rolls-Royce and say that the belief of continued flight was "based on analysis of signals sent by the Boeing 777's satellite-communication link... the link operated in a kind of standby mode and sought to establish contact with a satellite or satellites. These transmissions did not include data..." Even if it was only "pings" to establish contact with satellites, it means that the airplane was at least partially functioning and above water surface for a duration after the disappearance.
  9. I don't think it is possible to simply "extend the time lapse" or to do an "advanced search" past a certain date because there is a distinct border between different softwares.

  11. What if I disagree with the poster but still thinks the question/argument was good? If voting an "approve", "disapprove" or "neutral" standpoint is demanded before I can post a reply, it is very possible that I will skip replying to a lot of posts... Secondly, you would have gotten a negative reputation point by me for above post in such case which I don't think you deserve as person. All reputation points your posts accumulate are also reflected on you as a person and I don't value people negative because they don't agree with me. ---------- What I would like was the ability to change a vote, like if I misclick and vote on the above or below poster to what I wanted to vote, then that post/person gets an unfair vote that I can't easily undo.
  12. Well, thats to bad, but we have to live with it then because fake modnotes would not be good.
  13. I think the new "Modnotes" are great but when quoting a post with one it doesn't look very good, would it be possible to preserve the look inside a quote?
  14. Instead of saying "previously banned user" I think it would be nice if the name of the first banned account by this person was showed.
  15. Any progress on this? Right now it doesn't even seem to show on the members profile page that they are banned. Maybe they could be placed in a usergroup with it's own "Banished" title similar to what experts and moderators have under their avatar but with skulls instead of stars or alternatively that at least their ordinary user title should change to "Banished". (Other titles might also be needed for suspensions and similar lighter/shorter regulations.)
