Fentanyl Decontamination

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Looking for some help on how to detoxify fentanyl. First responders (Law Enforcement & Hazmat teams) are running into this as a cutting agent and full scale labs. What would be an effective decontamination solution to detoxify fentanyl and Carfentanil? According to the DEA they have used bleach on an alcoholic solution of fentanyl and the structure was left unoxidized? What about high ph solutions of sodium hydroxide?
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

To detoxify from what? What needs decontaminating?

Well it would mostly be surfaces. Those will vary from porous to non-porous. And responder suits.

I did find an article on Oxidative Destruction of Fentanyl. It appears that Trichloroisocyanuric acid works the best. But that too will destroy much of what it is placed on, so be it.
