Status Updates

Featured Replies

Status update has been increasingly misused as of late. It is for short announcements, typically of a personal nature, where you aren't expecting a lengthy conversation, and not for making pronouncements which would be out of bounds if made in posts (e.g. closed topics, complaints about moderation or potshots against science to name three popular subjects that are inappropriate)

Multiple post updates suggest you need to blog. If you want substantive responses, it should be a thread on the forums.

Moderator Note

I have hidden post arguing with SwansonT's clarification of the rules; this is not the place.

The thread should probably have been locked in the first place so I am doing that now. We really do not have the time nor the will to argue every rule and diverse interpretation with new members. We try to be fair and even-handed - if you have a non-personal gripe with the rules then open a thread in the Suggestions forum; please do not do this if you just want to argue moderator action taken with regards to one of your posts/comments.
