Yeah i'm out of germanium too, i'll have to pick some up with the milk... :)

why dont you get an old radio and take a few germanium diodes out of that, they`re the small glass cylidrical devices with a wire at each end and usualy a color band(s) painted on.

 

you want the square "chip" inside, about 1mm square, that`ll be your Ge :)

very large quantities i bet
