Wax

Featured Replies

I got a glance on this question in other forums.

In what state does wax as the fuel in a burning candle?

solid, liquid and Gas.

depending on which part you`re looking at.

Actually, aren't all fuels gasses during the burning process? It isn't really the liquid itself that is burning, it's the vapors coming off the heated liquid that burn and keep the flame going.

realy? that makes sense like when you burn alcohols for example the flam seems to be on "top" of it.

Yep also on some candles if you have a short wick you can see the flame hovering just above the wick (not all candles though).

or if you blow out a normal cnadle and hold a flame a few inches above the smoldering candle in the smoke the candle will relight without touching the wick.
