differences between endemic and epidemic plasmids

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am new in the field of epidemiology and microbiology. Could someone explain to me the difference between an endemic and epidemic plasmids and which are the medical implications do they involve?

Thank you very much.

Silvia

Endemic refers to localized phenomena, whereas epidemic refers to something widespread. I think it is a term that I have only heard from medical microbiologists.

More commonly in the microbiology community one would refer to host range, I believe.
