The atomic bomb demonstrates the conversion of mass-into-energy. Are there known (cosmological) phenomena which are instances of energy-into-matter ?

High-energy photons can undergo pair production (in the presence of an atomic nucleus, to conserve momentum), so gamma-ray bursts should be doing this, or any other cosmological source of photons with at least 1.02 MeV
