Biological details of the imprinted brain theory

Featured Replies

I've read much psychological discussion on Dr Badcocks blog on PsychologyToday. However, given that Badcock and Crespi's imprinted brain theory recently recieved some strong support (below), I would like to know more about the theory's biological underpinnings.

Opposite risk patterns for autism and schizophrenia are associated with normal variation in birth size: phenotypic support for hypothesized diametric gene-dosage effects.

What are imprinted genes? How could they make such general inferences about paternal-maternal baises in gene expression or silencing?
