White-Colebrooks formula

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does someone know how to derivate the formula of White-Colebrook? The professor said this will probably be a question on the exam, but I have no idea how to do it...

I've searched on the internet for quite a while and I can't find the derivation :(. This is the formula:

I would really appreciate any help!

Quote from Wikipedia

The Colebrook equation is an implicit equation that combines experimental results of studies of turbulent flow in smooth and rough pipes.

In other words it is empirical so has no 'derivation' .

That does not mean it is without any justification, do a Buckingham dimensional analysis to obtain the 'form' of the equation (but not the values of the constants)

Hah, I'll tell that to the professor on the exam ;) Although I don't think he will give me any points for it!

Thanks for your reply. I know the formula is empirical, so it is just based on experiments, but the professor literally said that there was a derivation...

So do the Buckingham analysis it was developed for hydraulics originally.
