Direction of sugars in phloem !! (Potato tuber) ??

Featured Replies

Nutrients are always transported through phloem downwards right?

But in this case, the answer given is D sugars upwards.

Why is it upwards instead of downwards ? Does the water in this case going upwards too?

I am a little bit confused. Hope to get some explanation. Thanks :))

Why would you think that is the case? More precisely what is the mechanism of nutrient transport through the phloem, what determines direction? (Hint: check mass flow hypothesis).
