my guess would be some sort of cooling aparatus, as seen upside down in your pic, the water for instance would enter at the side "swirl" around evenly and be taken away through the center pipe (the fittings show that`s the direction of flow also).

 

a beaker of flask would rest upon this (the side they`re resting on in your pic) to maintain an even temperature.

 

and if it`s not that, then it must be part of a Flux Capacitor :))

I was thinking of using it as a condenser by fitting a flask on the center joint then the condensed product will freely come out from the upside down funnel like end. I measured the center joint as approx. size 14/23

Its definaltey a Bong, and the left one looks like a condenser to me
