battery

Independently of the inverter, a battery stores electricity by a chemical reaction of its constituents. Some lose electrons, others (ions) get one, and when the battery is well thought, this happens only when an electric current flows outside the battery.

The electrochemical reaction goes in opposite directions during charge and discharge. Linking the reaction completely with the external current is the difficult part; only perhaps 100 practical cell chemistries have been widely used since electricity exists.
