How do I find the biomass?

Featured Replies

I have a powerpoint that must be done that is on the Tongass National Forest in Alaska. The problem is that I don't know how to get the biomass from there. My teacher made it a requirement, and although there is literally NO information that could be found on the Tongass National Forest he still makes us find it. Keep in mind that everyone has a different ecosystem, so it's pretty hard to find a specific biomass for each ecosystem.

Anyways, I've already gone through most credible sites about Tongass but nothing showed up, even in the library. What i'm thinking of doing is some bullsh*ting. How I'll do this is by finding an approximate biomass, but the problem is that I don't know how. So to the point, how do I find the biomass of Producers, Herbivores, 2nd,3rd, and 4th level consumers?

Yes, I know i'm not very smart.

Very confusing wording and little (relevant) context. Do you mean to find out what the total biomass of the Tongass National Forest is and that that value is supposed to be in your presentation? Or do you mean that you want to discuss biomass production/turnover?

If you had to estimate, what info would you need, what would be the major contributor to biomass in a forest?

Yea, I'm trying to figure out the total biomass of Tongass of each trophic level. Producers, Herbivores, Carnivores. BUT, i can't find much information on the biomass of Tongass so the question is how do I find biomass for each trophic level.

Google is your friend

I searched on Tongass and got the area and searched on Temperate Rainforest Biomass and first result had biomass per hectare - and the fifth said that Pacific North US was the dense sort of Temperate Rainforest

You're kidding me. I spent so much time on google and didn't find anything about biomass! -,- It'd still be nice to know how to find the biomass of a specific ecosystem of produces, herbivores, and carnivores.
