Structural and functional studies

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I read a job description which said that a part of the job will be structural and functional studies of different proteins. Now I`m wondering which methods these studies could include. Maybe somebody who is experienced in this kind of lab work can give me some more information.

Thanks

This can refer to a lot of different things and hence, techniques.

Structure can be elucidated by e.g.:

-crystallography

-NMR

-MS

-molecular biological techniques

Functional analyses often include:

-mutagenesis/ knock down

-fluorescence based investigations

-in vitro analyses

and many more (as well as combinations thereof). It really depends on the questions the lab is trying to answer.
