If the Earth stopped spinning, would half the world..

Featured Replies

Be in permanent daytime and the other in permanent nightime. If you understand me?

If it stopped spinning on its axis thing, would half of us always see the sun an the other half only see moon....

Since the moon orbits the earth in about 28 days, all portions of the earth would see the moon, whether the earth was spinning or not.

If the earth stopped spinning on its axis relative to the sun, one 'day' on earth would take about 365 days. We would still experience 'night' and 'day', but each would last about 182 days.

For the earth to permanently face the sun, it would have to spin once on its axis every year.

I would think that having one side of the Earth permanently face towards the Sun and the other side permanently face away (like the moon does with the Earth) would lead to very strong convection currents in the atmosphere, moving heat from the hotter side to the cooler.
