I am here to post my invention that stops counterfeit drugs market completely.

Name of my invention is, 'SUN ON PPC' --- Split Unique Number On Product Protection Cover.

Without unique identity numbers we cannot lead a single day of our life. Telephone, mobile, electric bill, water charges, various passes, tickets, hotel bills, facebook, internet, you mention something and in one way or other, unique identity number is attached to it. Unique identity number has become inseparable from our lives.

My invention is SPLIT unique identity number. Unique identity number that is split in two parts and pasted on medicine strips and vials will stop the counterfeit drug market completely. (Actually it will protect almost every commodity).

HOW?

I am eager to post my invention here. Only that someone should ask me to.

I don’t worry. My invention is published in Indian patent journal on 16 March 2012. Patent application number 94/MUM/2012. You can see it there also.

I propose that every medicinal vial should have 20 digit unique identity number printed on them. It should be split in two parts like 18+2.

In the manufacturing unit, when the drug is filled in the vial and capped and sealed and ready for packaging, this is the time when my PPC [Product Protection Cover] will be fastened on the cap of vial and its surrounding area up to its shoulder. PPC is a transparent plastic paper of required size that is shaped as per the size and design of the vial.

Fastened PPC’s outer surface should have 18 out of 20 digits of vial’s unique number printed horizontally on the standing vial.

PPC has a small perpendicular strip made by making small punctures on PPC. This strip itself is a part of PPC and on the upper side, it is little longer than PPC but down the way is cut short. Strip’s extra upper length (4mm) is to be used as holder by which, strip is to be torn away from the PPC. It comes away easily as it is punctured on both sides and is cut in the midway down. All this description is clarified in the figures in the attachment. This strip has remaining last 2 digits out of 20 on the inner surface.

Drug manufacturing unit produces vials in hundreds of thousand daily. It puts caps on each of vials, seals each of them and forwards them for packaging.

Here on, the company will print 18 digits on the transparent plastic paper and 2 digits on the strip, for every vial. This means every medicinal vial is having different/unique 20 digit number. Company holds all the numbers in its computerized system for confirmation.

Now the vial has arrived in the market and is bought and taken at home. Every vial has unique number on its PPC. One consumer, who is careful about the quality of what he buys, would not directly consume the tablets inside until he makes sure that he has bought medicine.

He will look at the transparent plastic cover around the cap area. He already knows that that medicinal vial does have unique number printed on that plastic paper. He finds 18 numbers printed on the plastic paper. He knows that remaining 2 digits are hiding behind the strip. He takes hold of the strip holder and gently tears it away and he sees the place on the strip where the 2 digits are hidden under charcoal dry paste. He scratches the charcoal paste and finds remaining 2 digits. Now he has all the 20 digits to dial for and find the genuineness of that particular vial from its manufacturer directly.

He sends on his mobile the 20 digit number to the special number, reserved for quality confirmation only. This special number has to be global/national number. The medicinal vial manufacturing unit receives 20 digit number sent by our careful consumer. It confirms it and in a reply thanks the consumer for helping the company in preserving medicine quality.. Within seconds our careful consumer receives guarantee of that medicinal vial directly from where it was manufactured bottled and sealed.

Our second consumer is not careful. He is one of the 90% careless consumers. He has also bought the medicinal vial and has reached home. He is too lazy to confirm the genuineness of the vial. He takes out vial and looks at it. Vial is capped, sealed and then fastened with some transparent plastic. He is annoyed at the arrangement that keeps him away from medicine. Once he takes in mind to throw away the plastic paper [PPC], strip holder attracts his attention as comparatively easier instrument to get rid of PPC with least labor. Using thumb and index finger he easily catches the holder and tears the strip off. But only part of the strip comes away as it is cut midway. PPC does not come away. It is still sticking to the tube. Lower part of the punctured strip is still on, keeping PPC in place. He then tears that part of the strip and throws away the PPC. But while tearing through the partial strip he knowingly or unknowingly has let the 2 digit strip fall down from his thumb and index finger. By this act, he has misplaced places of 20 digits and has destroyed the uniqueness of the unique identity number.

He breaks the seal, uncorks the cap and consumes tablet. Thus company’s 20 digit unique number that was given to that particular vial is lost forever.

The idea is this---- Careful consumers use it. Careless consumers lose it. In no way unconfirmed number is available for counterfeiting.Protection from fake medicines.ppt

"He sends on his mobile the 20 digit number to the special number"

More than 70% of the world’s population have never heard a dial tone.

Many , if not most counterfeit drugs are sold in places where mobile phones are a bit thin on the ground.

Also, Anything you can print, I can copy.

My invention works well for commodity manufacturers and consumers and not only protects genuine drugs. They sell and buy commodities worth millions of trillions of dollars annually. They will be saved of counterfeit and spurious commodities.

If 70% population doesn't have mobile or has not heard dialing tone, they cannot be consumers. They are fighting always for next meal. They die without any medical treatment.

If some of them afford to buy a drug, they don't have to own a mobile. From public telephone booth they can have the confirmation. If not, they just have to act while buying the drug as if they have telephone connection at home or a neighbor who have a mobile.

Yes. You can always copy printed matter but not hidden print. Two digits are hidden under PPC on the inner surface of strip that is to be torn to access those two digits. And you cannot copy those two digits unless you buy that drug. This stops copy counterfeiters in their tracks.

I request all of you to see the attachment. The drawings there are for total understanding of the invention.

This kind of stuff has been tried before. Microsoft for years has asked you to enter a product key to validate your copy of Windows or Office. The very first ones were laughably simple to beat -- it just had to be a number with the correct number of digits and was mod 7. They have improved since then. However, the unique numbers and letters are still created by an algorithm, and once that algorithm is cracked, then fakes can be printed easily.

I don't see how this idea wouldn't be different. The numbering system will be created by an algorithm of some sort, all it takes is a cracking or reverse engineering to that algorithm and fakes can be made. Yes, even the pseudo-random number generators by a computer are crackable. In fact, your 9 digits required for a unique container number is fairly small compared to the 20 or so characters most software asks you to enter to validate them. If one is a counterfeiter, purchasing many samples of the real in order to help crack the valid number generating algorithm could be well worth it, if it lets you produce your own valid numbers.

Ultimately, the solution is that stores should only be buying from reputable resellers/distributors, and the producers should maintain a list of resellers/distributors that they guarantee will have the real product. The producers should be auditing those distributors regularly to ensure that they aren't acquiring or creating their own fakes. No amount of 18, 20, or even 200 digit codes will beat managing by actually walking around; and by that I mean the drug producers actually auditing books, records, and talking with the employees of the distributors.

Look, I understand the need, and if done right, it could be a help. But it isn't perfect -- the overselling by using phrases like "complete stoppage" should probably be dropped. There will always be people who don't bother to check before taking their medication; I bet that segment of the population will be larger than you think. There will always be people who will make counterfeits so long as it is profitable to do so; solving this side of the issue requires a potent enough law enforcement system to actually protect intellectual property. Most of the world doesn't have that yet. There will always be distributors and other resellers who will purchase from another reseller without complete provenance because the price is right; again, this needs to be checked with random and thorough auditing by the producing company.

In short, no system will even be 100%.

Very highly intelligent brain is toiling in your head. If the computer made algorithm can be cracked, isn't it less intelligent of them who are yet relying on it? It isn't even a problem. Creating random 9 digit unique number in billions should not be then a computer job.

We can rely on rules and advancement of physics without any intellectual worries to create numbers. I propose, 9 thousand tiny beads of 9 different colours will be travelling speedily through 10 metal channels and their positions per second are captured by some gamma or ultra violet rays or alike and these positions will be fed to computer. So no algorithm and so no cracking. Computer is intelligent enough to decipher from these positions 1thousand nine digit unique numbers per second.

See. When you are hungry you don't eat up computer. You shut up computer, get up and eat your food.

Relying on men, engaged in business of reselling, distribution, and dealing for honest trading is very old tradition that boosts their courage to loot consumers without pity.

You say, 'There will always be people who don't bother to check before taking their medication; I bet that segment of the population will be larger than you think.'

Problem is you didn't read my invention with open heart. Unique numbers are being used for everything and everywhere. But till now we are not able to use them on commodities let alone medicines. The reason is if people don't check the number after purchase, the unchecked numbers on the product covers and product itself will reach counterfeiters and numbering system will fail. And until now there was no solution to this problem.

I have assumed that 10% consumers will check numbers, so 90% numbers will remain unchecked.

PROBLEM------ Unchecked numbers don't get destroyed.

SOLUTION----- Split unique number. SUN.

After purchase the unique number gets destroyed in the process of accessing the product.

SUN is the solution for unchecked numbers. Complete stoppage with 100% guarantee.
