Did you try to look on the internet? Google? Wikipedia?

I just did, and I found the answer within 1 minute. I'm sure you can search too.

 

It helps to add "wiki" as a keyword in google, to get the wikipedia page. Also, look for "production", "manufacture" or "process"...

I have seen brass nuts being made by a different process. They started from hexagonal bar stock, cut it into short lengths, then drilled and tapped the holes on a lathe.
