What does he mean?

Featured Replies

As long as I have a want, I have a reason for living. Satisfaction is death. ~George Bernard Shaw

What does George Bernard Shaw, mean by "Satisfaction is death?"

I guess he meant death is the end of "wanting". Not wanting anything means you can't be in a state of unsatisfaction. ???

When you are dead you have no wants or desires. This is the only time you will truly be satisfied: that is have no wants.

At least this is how I interpret it.

Does the road wind up-hill all the way? Yes, to the very end. Will the day's journey take the whole long day? From morn to night, my friend.

I think this quote is somewhat similar in its meaning.

If all wants are satisfied, there is nothing left to strive for.

In a similar way the death of any science will come when it runs out of questions.
