Too many similar BLAST hits

Featured Replies

I'm running a search on BLAST (NCBI) using a protein sequence from Streptococcus sp.

Most of the hits I get are from the same genus and even species (more than 50 out of 100 total).

Is there a way to obtain hits that represent a wider range of organisms. In other words,

it is possible to filter BLAST results in order to show up only one sequence per species?

All the best,

Gianluca

AFAIK it is not possible to filter for a single hit per species. What you can do is to limit your search to a certain groups of species, depending on what you want to see. Alternatively, save the complete output as table and filter it.
