There is air ionizers for several uses and claim some effects, but would like to know if negative ions are emitted from pointy needles exposed to ambient air as in some electronic gadgets sold, by negative or by positive high voltage.

(Believe negative); what happens if the high voltage on the pointy needles is alternating ?

What happens increasing the AC frequency to several KHz ?
