the original concepts of socialism were written in plato's republic. ever heard of roman jus naturale? native american tribes? anyway, more's utopia continued the ideas of socialism. then marx and engels wrote das kapital and then the communist manifesto.

 

there have been non-capitalistic as well as capitalistic ideals and economic systems throughout history.
