New process liberates hydrogen and oxygen from water using heat and light

Featured Replies

It sounds like it's one of the most simplistic things to do...seperating a molecule lol obviously it's not. What is the yield or effiency of the method on a large scale....and would it be expensive to produce using the method?

pure speculation based on information of course...what do you guys think

ah i remember this from a few weeks ago. someone in my group looked into this a s a possible reaction for a conceptual design of a methanol plant(we needed hydrogen and lots of it) turns out it doesn't scale very well(yet) and a medium scale plant(say 1000 tonnes per day) would cost a few trillion and its operating costs would be on a similar scale.

its possible with advances in other areas that it could become a viable industrial process but for now it is a lab scale curiosity.
