i think calling it a portal is a bit misleading, especially after the release of a certain game with the same name.

The presence of magnetic field lines (as written in the article) fascinates me. If there are magnetic field lines connecting the sun and earth, then the orbit of earth is not caused by gravity alone. There must be a magnetic force as well.

 

And I agree with previous two posts that "portal" is a misleading name. Portal suggests some kind of instant transfer.

the magnetic part of the force will be absolutely tiny compared to the gravitational force though.
