What is the most reliable/reasonable way to go about searching for unknown proteins in conditioned medium.

I have cultures of cells and need to look at soluble proteins released from these cells. I'm looking for relatively small proteins. I'm starting from scratch.

What equipment do you have access to and do you just want to quantify them, or really identifying them? In the latter case you probably need an MS or a tandem/MS.
