person Posted August 1, 2008 Share Posted August 1, 2008 Can i reduce zinc oxide with carbon powder ?? Well yes it is posible because i googled it but is it actuly posible for amature like myself ?? At what temp would the reaction start ?? Will the reaction give off enough Heat to continue the reaction like thermite eg can i have a mix of ZnO and C powder then just ignite with magnessium ribbon ?? The heat of the reaction will vapourise zinc produced ?? Any catalists that could help?? I am doing this to get zinc as the end product .is there an easier way to reduce ZnO ??? nitric Posted August 1, 2008 Share Posted August 1, 2008 You can reduce zinc with carbon.all you need is some metal piping and a good heat source like a propane torch.It would be more likely better to use Mg or Al as the reductant in a thermite reaction Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
