ecoli Posted May 15, 2008 Share Posted May 15, 2008 New linux user here. (mandriva 2008) I'm having some problems with audio. First of all, the audio on .m4a files isn't working. Could this be a codec problem? Also, plugging in headphones essentially doesn't do anything. No sound comes through, but sound is still coming through the system speakers. Soundcard: Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) HD Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel Audio device: ALSA Thanks in advanced __________________________________________ UPDATE: Apparently, in trying to fix the other problem, I've created an entirely new problem. Now, the sound is completely broken. I'm getting this error message: "Sound server informational message: Error while initializing the sound driver: device: default can't be opened for playback (No such device) The sound server will continue, using the null output device." And when I try to run sound applications (like amaraK) I'm getting this error message: "xine was unable to initialize any audio drivers." I'm pretty sure its a driver problem. Running : "lspcidrake -v | fgrep AUDIO" should tell me the default driver, but nothing comes up in the terminal window, when I run the script.
