Heart burn

Featured Replies

Why doesnt eating a lot of food dilute stomache acid rather than inducing acid heartburn?

well eating alot of food simply fills the cavity (our stomach) leaving little room for the HCl. after mastacation (chewing) the food then enters the stomach, part of it`s job is to move around ensuring a good mix of acid and peptic enzyme throught the product. if your stomach is too full, the movement can result in limited reverse peristalsis :)

What is peristalsis?

In this context, the wave of muscular contraction that moves food through parts of the digestive tract.

I could have said vomit or partial vomit, but figured that may have been a bit too gross :(
