GPA and colleges

Featured Replies

When a college considers GPA do they consider your GPA with or without weights from advanced classes?

I believe most of them do, although some don't. I believe some school have their own weighting system they use.

I think most schools have so many applications to go through, that the GPA becomes relatively unimportant, because people from different schools can have vastly different GPA's without that being an indication of their intelligence or work ability. After all, some schools (and this can vary greatly by state) are simply easier to get through than others. That's why standardized testing had become extremely important.

They tend to look at your class rank verses number of people in your class too. Even this though has is drawbacks as different schools have different demographics.

But to answer your questions, yes, colleges look at your weighted GPA, not unweighted. So do scholarships, in fact.
