And I suppose it contains a substantial amount of lanthanum..Is there a way to seperate it from other elements?

yes and no, it`s attacked by ariel oxidation and water, dissolves readily in acids, although sulphates are insoluble IIRC.

 

it`s about as reactive as Calcium metal.
