Drugs may reverse heart disease

A study of nearly 350 patients has found that high doses of a new statin drug, rosuvastatin, could break up fatty deposits in arteries and therefore "reverse" heart disease.

The researchers studied the patients over a two-year period and found that the number of deposits in the arteries decreased, although they cautiously note that they have not proven this to lower heart attack rates. This is good news for people with high cholesterol - the drug also cut levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol by 50%.

Sounds promising. I still say exercise and diet are a better idea, but if those don't work this sounds like it could help.

Quite right. People have better things to worry about than high cholesterol. Sure it's bad to be too high, but the causes of high cholesterol are what really matters.

Heart disease, diabetes (II), high blood pressure, depression....diet and exercise alone can help all of these significantly.

Education is the key, you can sing the diet and exercise tune until your lungs expload but people neither think of the future or think of the past effects to others around them.

The only way is to be more pragmatic and teach people to enjoy exercise and a correct diet.

Humans won't do anything for long unless they enjoy it, or fear it (possible exception is brainwashing which works a treat but then you have moral issues)
