squirrel activity

Featured Replies

what time of year do you reckon squirrels are most active/ spend most time outside?

I can certainly say that This Year, in the West Midlands UK, I`ve not noticed Any change in activity at all, the last pair that I saw was Yesterday at about 2pm. but it`s been uncommonly warm this winter so maybe that`s why?

:)

I tend to do most of my squirreling activity, i.e collecting and hoarding, in the winter, when not hibernating, an activity not easily seen by the normal nature watcher. In the summer I actively search out and utilise these caches, in the open, for all to see.

Or did you mean those furry tree rats?

what about rabbits?

Probably spring/early summer. Or maybe autumn. When it's about 50-70 degrees F out is when I usually see them.

I think squirrel activity during the colder months could be misleading. They are forced to move further from their usual stomping grounds to find food, and are hungry enough to overcome their aversion to approaching humans, true enough; but the fact that we encounter them more does not necessarily mean they are more active.
