When you spill some acid on paper, why does it turn yellow?

pretty sure not all acids due that, specify what acids did that for you.

In chemistry we did this one lab where we added different acids to different paper samples and they turned different colors. It was kinda dull.

maybe the paper was like soaked in different indicators then dried.
