I've got 2 problems here which are based on the same welded slender bar. I've thought about it for ages, but I'm clueless on what to do.

 

Any help will be much appreciated..

Gravity will exert a torque. T = r X F = I[math]\alpha [/math] The problems are made far, far easier because you are asked for the angular acceleration when the bars are vertical an horizontal, and not at some arbitrary angle.
