Is There a Chance for Another Evolutionary BreakThrough

Recommended Posts

Is there a possiblily of Humans evolving beyond Homo Sapiens ... Well I read somewhere that there was a previous species of Humans called The Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens evolved from Them ... Are we evolving beyond the Homo Sapiens??? Will be a sharp evolutionary breakthrough? I read that at a point of time Both Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens lived at the same period of time ... Is it possible that the evolution has already taken place and evolved Humans are already living among us although they are very few in number and someday they'll be the next race dominating ..

Well you were missinformed we didn't evolve from Neanderthals.

We both evolved seperatley from a common ancestor. And the Neanderthals didn't make it.

No it is not possible that there are a different species of evolved humans.

Look individuals don't evolve really. Species evolve or isolated populations. The human population is always evolving every organism is. It is a very gradule process, It's not like all of a sudden a baby is born that is a different species, though maybe 10000's of generations apart you could call two individuals different species.

Depending on what model of H. sapiens evolution you go by. There is one that says we evolved from archaics and spread to replace them, and another which states that we evolved in Africa, and moved to replace Archaics in other places.

Not impossible, but given humankind's current state of controlling our environment, I don't see this happening anytime soon. There is no reason why some of us would eventually speciate, in other words.

Yeah for a little while we did, and I bet there was some sharp competition between us that could have contributed to their (H. neandertalensis's) eventual extinction.

Evolution doesn't usually take such drastic steps, and especially not with us.

Typically, speciation requires two populations to become geneticly isolated. Given the way communication and transport have resulted in globalization, I cannot envision this happening anytime soon for long enough for speciation to occur.

That said, I *could* see humans splitting into multiple species if we develop interstellar travel, colonize other star systems, but then drop into a "dark age", isolating the humans on each star system for millions of years. But that's more a science-fiction plot than scientific hypothesis.
