Semi quantitative test for NO3

Featured Replies

I cant seem to find a semiquantitative test for nitrates in solution when in prescence of nitrites. The only one I can find involves Hg. Any simple solutions (no pun intended)?

This is for my fish tank. No need paying the fish shop for chemicals if I can do it myself.

Hey this isn't a semiquatitive test for nitrates or anything but I have fish tanks too and as long as your regular on the water changes or in the case of a SW tank have a dsb then you shouldn't have to worry about testing for nitrates.

I do that test for work... but unless you have a spectrophotometer lying around it could be a semi-quantitative (qualitative, really). I'm sorry to say, I don't remember the assay off the top of my head...but I'll look it up for you today if you want. It basically uses an indicator and it turns a color in the presense of nitrites.

edit: I want to say that it involves KCl...or was that for sulfur?
