Gathering oil from water.

Featured Replies

Hello. I have question, it's basic but I want to know different ways to do this. I'm doing some oil tincture and cooking it in my water-bath but glassware flipped when I was off the room and all the oil spilled into water. Most easiest would be cooking water into dissolution or putting it to fridge over-night.

Do you have any fun ideas I can do that or just practical?

Gathering oil from water.

Oil is not soluble in water, and (typically) has lower density than water, so it gathers on the surface of water.

If you would have them in significant amount, you could simply put them to larger container with even more water, and wait (days+) until oil gathers on the surface, and collect it.

When there is leakage of fuel from boat,

It's surrounded by buoys (with attached to them material to couple cm below surface of water) to disallow oil/fuel to spread and contaminate surrounding water.
